Sprucewood Shores Riesling

Drink: Sprucewood Shores Riesling
Source: Harrow, Ontario
ABV: 12%
Sugar: 11 g/L
Size: 750 mL bottle
Cost: $13.95

This Ontario offering skews dry, rather than the sweet and sometimes syrupy riesling of Germany and Austria. It’s a VQA wine (Vintner’s Quality Alliance), which means 100% of the grapes were grown in Ontario (or BC, if you see VQA on a BC wine!).

Pale straw in the glass.

Tart lemon, oak, and lime zest on the nose, with a hint of the quintessential peach so characteristic in describing rieslings.

Floral, grassy notes with rich, butter on the palate.

A tart and slightly herbal finish.

Hoochsavvy Grade: B+
