Drink: Mott’s Clamato Caesar Pickled Bean
Source: Mott’s Canada, New York, New York
Size: 458 mL tallboy
Though we at Hoochsavvy prefer fresh cocktails to canned ones, sometimes you just don’t feel like putting it all together yourself.
Enter the Mott’s Pickled Bean Caesar; if you were unfortunate enough to try their bacon version a few years ago, you too will be hesitant about this offering.
Classic tomato-red in the glass—as expected!
The typical clam, tomato, tabasco, and salt and pepper all are evident on the nose.
On the tongue, classic caesar flavours—garlic, onion, anchovies, chilli peppers are all flavourings added. However, MSG, and glucose-fructose—high fructose corn syrup—are also on the ingredients list. (When have caesars ever needed sugar?)
Not overtly spicy on the finish; this ready-to-drink is more mild than its spicy counterparts. (Nothing a dash of sriracha or tabasco won’t fix.)
Overpriced and underperforming. (It’s not even 473 mL!) Not bad, but who buys alcohol because it’s ‘not bad’? No Hoochsavvy individual—that’s who. Try if you must, but do yourself a favour and just make your own next time; it’s hardly a hard cocktail to make.
Garnish not provided, either.
Hoochsavvy Grade: C+
