Drink: Gaffel Kölsch
Source: Privatbrauerei Gaffel Becker, Cologne, Germany
Size: 500 mL tallboy
This kolsch ale (a warm, top-fermenting—read ale—beer that is then lagered at low temperatures, and comes from Cologne in Germany) is a hearty golden straw on the pour, with a dense head.
Dried apricot, leather, and medium maltiness on the nose, only a light spiciness from the hops.
Creamy carbonation on the tongue with a hint of orange zest and balanced malt.
A clean, lightly bitter finish akin to Pilsner Urquell (read that review here) with floral afternotes.
A robust brew at a reasonable price.
Hoochsavvy Grade: B+
