Neustadt Scottish Pale Ale

Drink: Neustadt Scottish Pale Ale
Source: Neustadt Springs Brewery, Neustadt, Ontario
ABV: 4.5%
IBUs: Unlisted
Size: 473 mL tallboy
Cost: $3.05

Dark amber with a hint of ruby on the pour, this offering from the community of Neustadt promises quality ingredients with a classic Scottish malt flavour.

Offering a gentle hint of hops—sourced from New Zealand—and orange peel, this ale is delicate and balanced on the nose.

The initial taste is a medley of the (unlisted) imported malts and a hint of citrus zest coming in shortly thereafter; the mouthfeel is light and creamy.

The finish is clean and refreshing, and this is where the ale shines through: without any film left on the palate, and a gently bitter finish, this beer is highly sessionable, especially considering the sub-5% ABV.

Best served with a serving of shepherd’s pie, haggis, or fish and chips wrapped in the customary newsprint.

Hoochsavvy Grade: B+
