Drink: Legendary Oddity
Source: Muskoka Brewery, Bracebridge, ON
Size: 473 mL tallboy
This golden/straw-coloured ale falls somewhere between the two shades; the bouquet has discernible orange peel and juniper in it, and these carry through to the taste.
The mouthfeel is luscious and balanced, with light maltiness that’s more evocative of wheat/white beers (Kronenburg 1664 Blanc or Hoegaarden) than a 7.1% ale, and has a clean finish that imparts no hoppy film to the palate. The heather tips added act as a floral bitter, without the heavy-handed hops of IPAs; it it worth noting that the Legendary Oddity is unfiltered for maximum flavour.
Refreshingly light, and now available in tallboys instead of the previously used 750 mL bottle, this ale is dangerously smooth and balanced. The only off-putting factor is perhaps the cost.
Have more than two or three, and you’ll be in trouble.
